Summary[]
Being thrown into the time vortex and isolated from the TARDIS by the Time Lords was not how the Doctor expected to start his new life, but sometimes you must play the hand you have been given. Washing up on a planet about to choke, the Doctor refuses to take this injustice lying down and sets off on a journey to locate his TARDIS; followed by two young people who are desperate to escape their own homes - whether he likes it or not!
All the while, someone is following the three and the mystery as to how the Doctor actually managed to survive is still unsolved...
Overview[]
The series consisted of eleven stories and fifteen episodes. It was Dev Patel's first full series as the Seventeenth Doctor and introduced new companions Omari Douglas as Teddy in the premiere, On Foreign Shores, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Amy-Mae in the following episode, Frozen Whimpers.
Natalie Robyn took over as showrunner whilst Logan Crimson took over as producer - an arrangement that would remain until Series 19.
With this series, airing dates would continue to be on Sundays. Everything from On Foreign Shores to Agoraphobia was part of the Series 16 production block.
For a first for Doctor Who, the TARDIS does not make an appearance for most of the series, instead, it merely shows up in the last ten minutes of Lies of Heaven when the Doctor finds his ever faithful companion waiting for him on Earth.
The main story arc for the series covered the Doctor attempting to find his TARDIS once again, after having been assassinated by the Time Lords at the end of Blood On Their Hands in Series 15 and thrown into the Time Vortex, expecting his body to burn up to ashes. The Doctor made use of a vortex manipulator and was joined in his journey to recover his vehicle by both Teddy and Amy-Mae.
